How do I set up the Windows firewall for the License Server?

Post by Peter Richterich »

Using the Aligner License Server requires communication on the following TCP and UDP ports: 123, 16030, 16031, 32156, 32157, 54643, 54644, and 54645.

Version 1.2.2 (or newer) of the Aligner License Server will automatically create the required exceptions in the Windows firewall. However, you may still need to follow the instructions below to create exceptions on the "client" computers for CodonCode Aligner.

To open the required firewall ports for using CodonCode Aligner and the Aligner License Server, please do the following:
  1. Make sure Aligner or the License Server is not running on this computer
  2. From the "Start" menu, select "Control Panel"
  3. In the Control Panel, select "Security Center"
  4. Under "Manage security settings for:" click on "Windows Firewall"
  5. Click on the "Exceptions" tab
  6. Click the "Add Program..." button
  7. Select "CodonCode Aligner" or "Aligner License Server" from the list of programs
  8. Click the "OK" button
  9. Restart Aligner or the License Server
If you are planning to use the License Server on Windows as a service, you will need to add a separate exception for the License Server service, since the service is run from a separate program. The name of the service program is "LS_Service.exe". If you cannot see this program in the list of programs in step 7, click the "Browse" button, and navigate to the folder where the License Server is installed (usually C:\Program Files\Aligner License Server\). Select the "LS_Service.exe" program, then click "OK".

If you are running a firewall other than the Window's firewall, you may need to get assistance from your local system administrator to open up the necessary ports.
