Using the License Server while traveling

You have two options for using Aligner with a license from the license key server while traveling:

  1. Use “Extended” keys with a laptop
If your 'off-site' computer is a laptop that you can bring to and from work, the Aligner License Server allows you to check out keys for either several hours or days. Instructions for requesting “extended” keys are available under the topic "How to get 'extended' keys from the License Server".

  2. Connect to the license key server remotely
Depending on your network setup, you may be able to access the license key server directly from your 'off-site computer'. To do this, you will need to do one of the following:
    1. Install the License Server on a computer with a "public" IP address that can be accessed from outside of your local network. You will need to check with your system administrator if this is an option.
    2. Connect to the License Server using a VPN connection to your university network.
For your reference, the folks at IU Bloomington have a good description of how to set up a VPN connection at: http://kb.iu.edu/data/ajrq.html Obviously, you’ll need to substitute the proper servers for your university.
For both option a and b, you should setup your license server so that a password is required to get a license.
